As an important raw material of ceramics, quartzite can reduce the plasticity of ceramics, reduce the drying shrinkage of green bodies, shorten the drying time and prevent the deformation of green bodies. In the process of firing ceramics, the expansion of quartz can partially counteract the shrinkage of the body. At high temperature, quartz becomes the framework of the body, and mullite is formed with alumina, which can prevent the body from softening and deformation. Quartz can also improve whiteness and semi permeability of porcelain. Quartz in glaze can increase melting temperature and viscosity of glaze, reduce expansion coefficient of glaze, and improve mechanical strength, hardness, wear resistance and chemical corrosion resistance of glaze.
